Shakespeare’s Sonnett XXVII

Weary with toil, I haste me to my bed,
The dear repose for limbs with travel tired;
But then begins a journey in my head
To work my mind, when body's work's expired:
For then my thoughts--from far where I abide—

Intend a zealous pilgrimage to thee,
And keep my drooping eyelids open wide,
Looking on darkness which the blind do see:
Save that my soul's imaginary sight
Presents thy shadow to my sightless view,
Which, like a jewel hung in ghastly night,
Makes black night beauteous, and her old face new.
Lo! thus, by day my limbs, by night my mind,
For thee, and for myself, no quiet find.

Me presenta tu sombra a mi vista oscura

Early Modern English Translation

Tired from work, I hurry to my bed,

The dear repose for the limbs that are weary from travel

But, then begins a journey in my head

To work my mind, when the work of the body is finished

For then my thoughts, far from where I am

Arduously desire a pilgrimage to you

And they keep my eyelids open wide

Looking at the darkness that the blind see:

Except my soul’s imaginary sight

Presents your shadow to my dark vision

Which, like a jewel hanging in the horrible night,

Makes the black night beautiful, and its old face, new,

My love, thus, by day my limbs, by night my mind,

For you, and for me, we can never find rest without each other.
